It seems the rise of Neo Nazism is steadily growing, steps must be taken to crack down on it before the UK begins to resemble Hitler's Germany! :o

Neo-nazism (shouldn't that be naziism?) has been growing eversince 1945, to some extent because the American Nazi Paty is, if I remember correctly, legal and is one of the largest white supremacist and anti-semetic groups anywhere.

The increase over the years of laws to protect religious and ethnic minorities have, according to friends I have in the US, resulted in a correcponding increase in membership of organisations such as the American Nazis.

It would seem to me that the only way to reduce this recruitment is to reduce the laws against anti-semitism amd race hatred which woudl equally play into the hands of the extremists.

This is, I realise, probably, a extrenmely simplistic way of looking at the problem, but when a serving British soldier is convisted of recruting for a far-right organisation sometyhing is obviously seriously wrong, somewhere in politice and the law.

You don't remember the 70's do you  ;)

The rise of the National Front back then was scary and felt a lot bigger than perhaps it was but still we have came a long way from the 70's (love thy neighbor etc) and would hope too far to go back to those days.

I think during a time of hardship/brexit the extremists always do their recruiting for homophobic/racist nonsense and blame those different from themselves who they perceive to be the root of the problems in their sad lives.

Thankfully i think it's only a very very small minority of hardcore idiots who make a 'career' of it, i'm naive enough to think the majority of people are decent and just want to get along.
I believe in everything until it's disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it's in your mind. Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now?

I wish you were right, but have a feeling it is more than a hardcore minority, unfortunately. I have been posting on forums since the late 90s, I have been shocked in the last couple of years or so by the racism and homophobia, which I have encountered, on forums for the over 50s as well as religious forums, which wasn't so apparent before then. The rise of UKIP and the Brexit referendum appears to have sparked it off, imo.:o

It doesn't occur to you that "cracking down on" political groups of which you disapprove is very like Hitler's Germany?

KO: 'Love Thy Neighbour' was a pretty rubbish sitcome, but it was anti-racist in intent, same as 'Till Death Us Do Part', which was much better as a sitcom. Both are condemned today as racist by  over-earnet types who don't understand satire, but neither Alf Garnett nor the white bloke in 'LTN' were supposed to be admired. They were both dim-witted figures of fun. The black bloke in 'LTN' was much more intelligent and better-educated than the white bloke.

It doesn't occur to you that the 'political groups' that Littleroses wants to be clamped down on are. in essence, Nazi Garmany? Or, at least, those who made Nazi Germany the villified state that it is?

The irony of democracy is that it benefits most those groups which would completely destroy it if they achieved real power, such as nazi movements. We can't destroy democracy in order to save it. As long as they stay within the law, even nazis should be allowed freedom of speech. The law in mature democracies is adequate to prevent them achieving their ends.

Democracy is ok to a point, but certain things should not be permitted like racist and homophobic abusive comments.

I'm neither a homophobe nor racist; but I can see the mindset of some who are; the latter seem to think tat "If only we went back to the days when...." when those days never existed.
You cannot legislate for ignorance. All you can do is chip away at the

They are already illegal, under hate-crime legislation (about the wisdom of which I have serious doubts - the law already dealt with threatening speech and abusive actions before anyone ever thought of hate crimes).

That's why we have underpinning human rights provision and legislation. Effectively this limits what can be delivered under democracy. So if a majority wanted to ban muslims from being able to be UK citizens (as an example) our human rights obligations would kick in and prevent this happen. To curb the tyranny of the masses so to speak.

Thank goodness for human rights legislation.
