I don't understand.

"...it explains it's self ..."

Do you mean that you are Scunthorpe?
Does Magna Carta mean nothing to you? Did she die in vain?

The River Piddle in Dorset.  They say you can go on the Piddle from Tolpuddle to Puddletown.

Walter,

I live close to the village of Ugley, which I'm pleased to report is the proud home of the Ugley Women's Institute.

Now we know where the Piddle Brewery gets its water from ...

There is a Piddle Brook in the Vale of Evesham, too.

I've always enjoyed those places that sound like characters in 30s novels like Stansted Montfichet

NS,

It's Mountfitchet (with a "u") and I live here!

We're not far from Much Hadham (apparently pound for pound the most expensive village in the country by the way), which always sounds a bit Carry On to me.

I was knew someone with a cat called Rubsnif, which was a shortened version of the full name of Krapy Rubsnif...

...which is of course Finsbury Park backwards, which is where the cat came from.

Indeed, I used to do a weekly commute via Stansted to London. Thanks for the correction, I hadn't realised that I passed you quite that frequently on the train.

I think we've had a thread similar to this in the past as I remember posting about place names in Lincolnshire.

A few of my favourite are Mavis Enderby, Bag Enderby, Boothby Graffoe and the magnificent Rand-cum-Fulnery.
