Don't think this article is as clever as its author thinks it is.

If people can change their gender, why can't they change their age?

No, gender is a cultural aspect strongly influenced but not entirely determined by biological sex.  Similarly, age is a factual count of the number of revolutions of the Earth about the Sun since an individual's birth, whereas being 'old aged' is a cultural assessment of that age.

You can decide that you don't want to be 'old-aged', or 'elderly' and society will have various opinions about that choice depending on how old you are and how the particular culture you're in views that.

"I am as old as my tongue and a little older than my teeth", is what my maternal grandmother used to say to me, when I asked her how old she was. I believe in being honest about one's age, I am 69. One of my grandson's told me a year of two back that I didn't look a day over 135. I told him he was fortunate we were having the conversation on the phone, as my hand was itching to give him a spanking! ;D ;D ;D

No I don't. You can't change your sex. People who change gender sometimes have surgery and hormone treatments to make their appearance reflect the norms for their preferred gender, but sex is biologically determined.

There are many aspects of ageing that have little to do with the amount of time you have been alive. How old you feel is more a function of your attitude and the physical state of your body which is correlated with time spent alive but not 100%.

Gender isn't real. The legal idea of women is still in the UK sex based, and while we have some legal fictions about changing sex, I don't think it is possible. The changes though are against the classification sex though rather than gender. I do not currently have a legally recognised gender, and I hope I never do.

Nope, gender is just a moveable set of stereotypes. And obviously given my reference to legal fictions, I wan't making any claim that the legal systems in the UK determined reality. However, absent a legal fiction, in what way is gender real, and how does one change it?

Nope, gender is just a moveable set of stereotypes.
Gender is real enough for some people to undergo surgery so that their bodies conform more closely to the gender they perceive themselves to be.

I stated a fact about the law in the UK systems. I didn't say that the law in UK systems determined fact.

In the sentence immediately before stating your "fact" about British law, you said "Gender is not real". Any reasonable person would read your assertion about British law as a point made to back up your claim that gender is not real.

The title of this thread is about age NOT gender. NS and Jp should be put on the naughty stair as they keep sniping at each other instead of agreeing to differ. BAD BOYS!
