Serena pulls out. Imagine there may be some impact from the weather here as well.

Looking like Ostapenko will put out second seed Pliskova. I suppose not a huge upset but a welcome return to form for Ostapenko

Galan taking the opportunity of getting into the competition by being a lucky loser in qualifying by getting to the 3rd round of the men's. Though as his next opponent is Djokovic, I suspect that's as far as he will go.

And with Andreescu out injured, another young Canadian doing well in the women's, Fernandez. She's playing Kvitova next - which will be interesting.

Looking at today's matches Korda v Martinez in the men's means that a qualifier is guaranteed to make the 4th round.

Huge shock yesterday with Gaston beating Wawrinka 6-0 in the 5th. Gaston was ranked 239 at the start of the tournament and got in as a French wildcard.

Galan, the (p)lucky loser from qualifying not surprisingly lost comprehensively to Djokovic.

Kenin seems to have played herself into some form and from looking out of sorts must be in with a chance of a second slam.

Halep in big trouble currently against Swiatek.

Swiatek knocks out Halep easily, and Bertens is beaten by Trevisan.

Think this means that Barty is certain to be No1 at year end. Had Halep won the French she would have taken it.

Trevisan, another qualifier, is up 77 places in the rankings with that win to 82.

Currently only 4 seeds left in the women's draw. Svitolina, Kenin, Kvitova, and Jabeur. Jabeur was only seeded because so many higher ranked players were missing.

Catching up on the tennis news - and as usual nowadays recognising only the occasional name! I hope the Slams get back to, or rather, go forward to a system similar to the old, so that at least I can perhaps get to know a few of them and listen with more interest.

British interest in the main competitions now over with Jamie Murray and Neal  Skupski knocked out of the men's doubles.

Looking forward to Nadal vs Sinner later.

2 more seeds knocked  out in the women's, Jabeur, and the top remaining seed Svitolina. Svitolina lost to Podoroska who is a qualifier, and currently up 83 places in the rankings to 48.

Big win for Schwartzman over Thiem. Not sure that the Paris Masters and EOY will happen.

Nadal beat Sinner in straight sets but definitely the toughest match he has had so far.

So the semi finals in the women's are Swiatek v Podoroska and Kenin vs Kvitova.

And Swiatek is into the doubles semi final as well

Swiatek and Kenin into final. Youngest set of women finalists at the French since 2003.

While it feels unlikely that we wom't get a Nadal v Djokovic final, both semifinals present a chance of an upset. Nadal plays Schwartzman who beat him in Rome, and was impressive in beating Thiem.

Djokovic has Tsitsipas who has rather like Kenin in the women's appeared to have played himself into form.

And we are back at Nadal vs Djokovic - the most frequent men's match in the Open era. Nadal could win a 13th French Open and equal Federer's 20 Slams. And yet Djokovic's win guarantees that he will pass Federer's record of weeks at number 1 ranking.

Swiatek lost in the doubles semi final.

Nadal's record of currently 99 wins and 2 losses at the French Open is one of the most extraordinary records in all sport.

Utterly brilliant performance from Swiatek, lowest ranked woman to win the French. That level of performance should mean she wins more though Ostapenko's win in 2017 looked very similar, if not as dominant.
