I don't know yet whether Andy Murray won or lost, but I just could not listen to some of the FiveLive commentary last night. There were two female commentators talking about side issues of the life and careers of the two players on cort, Konte and her opponent. Since this is radio, you'd think they would realise that people, particularly ones like me, need to hear the commentary in order to have an idea of what is going on since we cannot watch TV at the same time. Apart from the annoyance of that, one of them had no t at the end of words which finaly drove me to switch off. Caugh* ou*,. abou* I*, le* I* etc etc etc, glottal stop t's 90% of the time. Just a few sessions with a speech therapist would perhaps make them realise that it is laziness of the tongue, which needs to touch the back of front teeth to make the t sound that is the problem. No-one expects every single t to be heard all the time but the excessive lack is irritating.
The same female commentator went on to work with a male for the Dan Evans match and again, spent time chatting about this and that and not telling the radio audience what is actually happening on court. Ah, well, I suppose it's just me being old!
Anyway, did Murray win?
