The inclusion of ATP ranking points makes this significant in the battle for Number 1 ranking but the dependency on the ranking of opponents is an odd feature.

UK loses first round match to Bulgaria. Not a great result and the doubles pairing of Murray/Salisbury would have been expected to win. Evans lost from being a set up again. The doubles match finished at 2.47 am - The scheduling issues that hit the Davis Cup also happening here.

Good win for Norway over the US

Win for UK against Belgium. Big win for Evans.

Big win for Australia over Canada 3 -0 even without Kyrgios. Think that makes them first team through.

UK win their 3 matches against Moldova to give themselves a chance of qualifying for next round. Not sure what the chances are of going through as one of the 2 best runners up at this stage.

UK qualify as topping their group so will be in the quarter finals where they will play Australia who look as if they will go through without losing a match, and will have home advantage.

Pretty good news all round! What happened to Johana Konta? I think I heard that she was losing something.

Given it was her first game back from injury against a player she struggles with, quite hard to tell.

While I think so far the ATP Cup has been quite successful - I note that in the Uruguay/Georgia match up which will only determine who finishes 3rd and 4th in the group - there is  match between the world 671 and the world 1657. The winner gets 15 ranking points which is quite a big deal at those levels. For Metreveli the 672 player he currently has a total of 29 ranking points and this would move him up to 562. For Roncadelli the 1657 player he would move up to 859. But I have to wonder who is watching it.

ETA Metreveli has won 6-1 6-2.

A 3-0 victory for Argentina over Croatia lifted them into top position from fourth and dumped Croatia out as it allowed Canada to qualify in the 2nd runner up spot. This gives quarter finals of Serbia v Canada, Russia v Argentina, Australia v UK, and Spain V Belgium. All of those apart from Belgium qualified for the quarter finals in the Davis Cup 2 months ago. Russia, Australia, and Spain look likely to qualify Serbia v Canada is harder to call. After all Canada made it to the final in the Davis Cup.

Hadn't realised the WTA Brisbane Open was being played off the show courts because of the ATP Cup. Hmmm....

UK knocked out by Australia in a very tight match up = 18-16 in the deciding tiebreak in the doubles. Very good win for Evans vs De Minaur.

ETA Evans win has for the moment moved him up to 31 in the provisional rankings. There are a couple of lower ranked players still in who could move above him but it makes it likely that he will be seeded at the Australian Open.

Spain through on the champions tiebreak.  Nadal has really put in a shift playing most of the double as well as the  singles here and in the Davis Cup, and the match against Goffin was the only one he's lost

Serbia through to the final, and with the luxury of being able to rest Djokovic from playing the doubles. Spain 1 nil up against Australia - Bautista Agut having won his 5 matches in the singles shows why Spain are the favourites. But Nadal 1 set down against de Minaur.

Sad that Andreescu is injured again. Her last year was an astounding one for someone with the injuries she had.

Serena into a final after annihilating Anisimova, who is an emerging star though born well after Serena started winning. Next up is Pegula and you have to think that this will be Serena's first title since she returned from giving birth.

Nadal came back to win in 3 sets. Spain through and get to rest Nadal from the doubles.

The final then is Serbia v Spain with a Djokovic v Nadal match up. Bautista Agut should beat Lajovic but Lajovic is having a good week. If it is 1-1 after the singles then likely to see Nadal and Djokovic playing in the doubles. The Djokovic v Nadal match will have an impact on the battle for the no 1 ranking.

Elsewhere after decent runs both Evans and Edmund lose in quarter finals, but Watson on to the semi final

And lots obviously happened since last post on this but that's in the past...
Obviously the ongoing news is Federer not playing till the grass season - it makes me fairly certain that this will be his last year.

And I see Kyle Edmund is continuing his return to form with a good win over Lopez in the Mexican Open

Looks like Murray will struggle to play much this year. If he doesn't recover to play in the Olympics, then big question as to whether he will see it worth coming back.
