And Sharapova retires. In the 2019 thread, I wondered about the number of retirements coming up this year, and while Sharapova has not been a force for some time, it's still part of a reordering that I think we will see by the end of this year. In the men's game it needs a new younger Slam winner, and to have a new number 1. The women's game already has its young stars but it will still be very different if the Williams, and a generation of Eastern European women retire.

And another good win for Evans - into the Semi Finals in Dubai. Up to 10th in the live ATP race. And looking at it, he's beaten 2 players Auger Aliassime and Rublev who are still above him in the Race in this tournament.

If Andy Murray has to drop out, I wonder what he will do. Do you think he would make a good coach? I don't think he'd make it as a BBC commentator - his voice just isn't right!

I'm sure hell make an excellent coach, in fact I've heard he's having all his teeth taken out next week and two rows of seats put in.

I think he's more likely to do some lind of tennis ambassadorship. I can see him taking over the Davis Cup captaincy.

Not sure about commentating. I understand what you mean about his voice but I've heard him do some and it was pretty good.

Evans beaten by Tsitsipas but Watson into final in Mexico.

Both Nadal and Djokovic reach finals in Mexico and Dubai respectively. Djokovic coming close to being knocked out by Monfils who has had a great return to form recently

Konta into semi final in Monterey, still not looking back to her best but good to get some wins. Nice to see Zvonareva getting to the semi finals in the 2nd tier Indian Wells tournament as she returns from injury.

For the first time in decades we have centre court tickets for Wimbledon - I am hoping that they find, at least before July, that the chances of spreading covid-19 at sports events is negligible

So as noted on the main coronavirus thread there the tennis season is canclled till May. This will in some ways protect Federer's ranking as while he will lose points for being out injured till after the French, others won't be able to defend or gain points either. That said, he's likely to be a good way down the rankings by the time he returns, he could just manager to stay in the top 8 but if there is tennis from May 3rd then he could be around 12- 18th - difficult to be precise on this

Though given the peak is predicted as 12 - 14 weeks, that would seem to be likely to affect Wimbledon.

By that time, we'll all be screaming to get back to normal and screw the epidemic. It's possible - probable even - that Wimbledon might be cancelled fairly soon anyway, but I think that, by the time we get to summer, all these cancellations will be widely regarded as having been a mistake.

Possibly, but are you saying that the govt is now ignoring the scientific advice, or that the advice is wrong?

I’m not aware of any scientific advice regarding Wimbledon.
