Impressive win for Konta but the fall out from the shooting of Jacob Blake means the semi final is postponed and Osaka has pulled out of the other semi final.

From what I've heard on Five Live,
Western and Southern Open for both men and women. And no, it isn't virtual, it's the real thing. A Masters tournament

Thank you. In that case, I am pleased to hear that Andy Murray is able to take part so much.

Konta knocked put by Azarenka. Osaka returned to the tournament after the postponement on Thursday and is into the final.

In the men's Djokovic maintained his 100% record for 2020 but struggled against Bautista Agut. Big win for the returning Raonic over Tsitsipas.

Osaka pulls out of final giving Azarenka her first title since 2016. Given her personal circs over that period, have to admit to being pleased for her.

Good wins for Edmund and Norrie. Norrie's particularly impressive as came back from 2 sets down against 9th seed, Schartzmann.

Djokovic through easily and, if his neck injury is ok, hard to see him not managing his 18th Slam, though Tsitsipas is looking good.

Pliskova played well and must be in with a great chance though the lack of 6 top ten players including the defending champion gives this a very open feel. Surprised at Gauff losing in first round, though I had forgotten that Sevastova is a bit of a US Open specialist.

Murray wins from 2 sets down!
I was so pleased to hear that very cheering news. I turned on the radio when he was 3-0 down in the third set so gloomily switched off. Turned on again later to hear the very end of the match!!

Evans, and Konta also win. First time that 4 British men have reached the 2nd round in the US Open since 1974.

2 former champions knocked out in the women's singles, Clijsters, and Venus Williams.

Explanation of what the ATP  and WTA are doing for rankings:

https://www.atptour.com/en/news/fedex-atp-rankings-adjustments-faq

https://www.wtatennis.com/news/1717831/wta-announces-revised-wta-ranking-system

Difficult to tell at this stage what the effect will be but I suspect that win  in the US will make likely  the end of year no 1 for Djokovic. He's also pretty well certain to break Federer's record of weeks at number 1 if he wins.

Also Federer likely to finish in the top 6, possibly as high as 4.

Edmund out after winning the first set against Djokovic. Norrie through.

In the women's singles, Karolina Pliskova, the number one seed? Knocked out.

I don't know yet whether Andy Murray won or lost, but I just could not listen to some of the FiveLive commentary last night. There were two female commentators talking about side issues of the life and careers of the two players on cort, Konte and her opponent. Since this is radio, you'd think they would realise that people, particularly ones like me, need to hear the commentary in order to have an idea of what is going on since we cannot watch TV at the same time. Apart from the annoyance of that, one of them had no t at the end of words which finaly drove me to switch off. Caugh* ou*,. abou* I*, le* I* etc etc etc, glottal stop t's 90% of the time. Just a few sessions with a speech therapist would perhaps make them realise that it is laziness of the tongue, which needs to touch the back of front teeth to make the t sound that is the problem. No-one expects every single t to be heard all the time but the excessive lack is irritating.
The same female commentator went on to work with a male for the Dan Evans match and again, spent time chatting about this and that and not telling the radio audience what is actually happening on court. Ah, well, I suppose it's just me being old!

Anyway, did  Murray win?

Konta also out, and Evans match suspended in the 3rd set with 1 set a piece. Auger Aliassime looked very good beating Murray.

Azarenka continued her winning streak with an excellent win over Sabalenka.

Yes, I too heard that on a news headlines some time during the night. What a silly, and rather petty thing to do.

Means there will be a new men's singles winner for the first time since Cilic in 2014, and first from outside the Big Three since 2016. Also means that Djokovic less likely to end World No 1 as he lost the points he gained here.

Also I think this is the first men's slam quarter finals to not feature one of the big three since the 2004 French Open.

This is the youngest set of quarter finalists in a men's slam for a few years.

Kenin, the top seed in the women's knocked out. Serena came through tough match against Sakkari.

Joe Salisbury, now the last remaining Brit, is in the semi finals of the men's doubles.
