Dear me, that's a shock :(
Pain, or damage, don't end the world. Or despair, or fucking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man, and give some back. - Al Swearengen, Deadwood.

A compete change of gear, but this I still find so moving, made even more poignant with increasing age.

It was Turandot on Radio 3 last night so I googled Eva Turner singing 'In Questa Reggia' which is still the best I think.

I've just listened to a version of a Simon and Garfunkel song - The sound of Silence - by a group named "Disturbed".

I love it! The video is also amazing!

 :o

Wow! That's interesting.

I'm visiting a volcano next week  ;) or sleeping just underneath one. ( just on the side)

( Shan't try singing in it though, it might go off  ::) )

It last erupted in the 1970's so I'm not chancing my luck  ;D

I love volcanoes.

Top gear did a really interesting program where they drove up and  parked on the side of an erupting one once.

I was glued.

Totally insane, but I loved it.

At risk of a small diversion, I've just finished watching Fortitude, which I enjoyed greatly - it was filmed in Iceland (in winter to boot) and many have said that the real star of the show was the landscape. Like Scandinavia generally it's my kind of landscape, my kind of weather and my kind of culture, having long had an interest in the sagas and Germanic/Norse mythology in general - I'd love to see it too.

And now we return you to your scheduled thread.

Yes, the sagas are my thing - fascinating that they are still a living, breathing part of Icelandic culture today.

As you were.

That brought back some memories, Nearly. I actually saw her live in Hull sometime in the 60s. She was one of the artistes who got me interested in Blues, Gospel and Black Country Music.

So, I'll follow that with another of my influences from that time, Snooks Eaglin. He was blind and I believe he learn't how to play by listening to the radio. Hope you like it:
