Some film music from the sublime 'Badlands'.  First, Carl Orff, then Mickey and Sylvia with 'Love is Strange', plus some ace dancing.

Wigs et al,

Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me (Gavin Bryars + unknown tramp, 1971).

Remarkable.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1lnSi7QWY8

Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet is a 1971 composition by Gavin Bryars. It is formed on a loop of an unknown homeless man singing a brief stanza. Rich harmonies, comprising string and brass, are gradually overlaid over the stanza. The piece was first recorded for use in a documentary which chronicles street life in and around Elephant and Castle and Waterloo, in London. When later listening to the recordings, Bryars noticed the clip was in tune with his piano and that it conveniently looped into 13 bars.[2] For the first LP recording, Bryars was limited to a duration of 25 minutes; with the invention of the cassette tape, Bryars was able to complete a 60-minute version of the piece; and later, with the advent of the CD, a 74-minute version.

A favourite of mine for years - the version with Tom Waits (my musical hero) is just spine-chillingly evocative.

Wiggs and Blue - good to see you on the 'music' thread. :)

Civil Wars, thumbs up Wigs ...

Blue and Gordon, 'Jesus' blood never fails me' - never heard that before .... very haunting - he sounds/sounded like a happy (faithful) wee tramp. :)

Prof - like the latest look .... a trifle better than the other two you tried. :P

Here's Birdy, only 15, up and coming new talent, with 1901 originally by Phoenix ....

Serge's son is doing some interesting stuff. Sort of a Brazillian Bossa vide going on here:

Currently listening to Roy Ayers' debut solo album for the first time. For now I can only find a later version of the title track:

Still trying to find those early Billy Bragesque Adele recordings. In the process I found some really early Jamie Woon......what a talent.

No video to share right now, but here's some of his more recent output...mostly for those people who think that dance music and sampling isn't real music:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2n1GDrEvgxM&feature=youtube_gdata_player

And an acoustic version to show that he's a 'real musician':

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5H0Kqi_6SxA&feature=youtube_gdata_player

The studio album is even better and easily one of my favourite albums of the last 12 months. For some time it's been a repeat request after a night of clubbing.

Rinse and repeat.

This might sound pretentious but if there is one thing worth worshiping, it's music. It's a celebration of life that cannot be equalled by anything else. No dogma, no guilt!

I can just see James Brown straightening his funky ass gold-plated dog collar. Just gimme some!

I think you should go and see a doctor about that ELO thing. It could be a nasty growth.

I'm admittedly a music snob and could easily give the most dogmatic jazz head or Norther Soul fiend a run for their money. But there is something compelling about a love for music that makes me respect anyone with such a passion.

The ugly flip side is that I'm deeply suspicious of anyone who doesn't like music or has a superficial interesin it - did you see 'Keith Alan Meets Nick Griffin'?

Not a huge fan of Keith Alan, but he does have a way of pushing people's buttons in a way that makes them more open than they would be ordinarily (not in the same league as Nick Broomfield though). Let's just say that the documentary was very revealing, but not entirely surprising.

The section on Griffin's musical taste was particularly interesting as it speaks to my views on people who have a very superficial relationship with music. Keith didn't make the connection but I think there is a link with his observation that Griffin lacks 'humanity'.

Now I'm in the mood for some boom bap loveliness courtesy of Q-Tip:

I've finally got around to looking in on the Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01cx717#synopsis

I can't understand why it took me so long to find out about the show, but now I know the score I'll be listening in every week. When Gilles Peterson moves to R6 that will mean around 6 hours of unmissable music programming each week  ;D.
