Sometimes, it seems, too much information can spoil art... I've had an album tucked away on my shelf since I was at university (at least I think it's that long...?) which I like to pop on to work to because a lot of the songs are in Gaelic, so I can't really sing along, and I don't get distracted by the lyrics.

Well one of them popped up on another site, and it turns out the lyrics to all of Capaercaillie's songs are on their website, so I went to look it up. It really doesn't do anything in translation..

Coisich a ruin sounds such a haunting tune, and the musicality of the Celtic languages carries it beautifully... but lyrically it's just GCSE poetry at best... I think I'll stick to the Gaelic from now on!

Loving this at the moment ....

Elbow - First Steps (Olympics 2012)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kj3_3vvHDwE

........ and the lyrics:

The sun, the moon
Both turn for you.
And through your days
Will light your way.

Our strength and love
All in your blood
Our hope and pride
All in your eyes.

Your eyes.
Your eyes.

You shape our world
With every step.
Oh, the will to fly
Is in your eyes.

Our strength and love
All in your blood.
Our hope and pride
All in your eyes.

Your eyes.
Your eyes.
Your eyes.

That's lovely, Sweet Pea, but what puts me off of Elbow is that my dad likes them.
I think that's why my daughter doesn't like this.

I've never really "got" Elbow, all very pleasant for a slot on "Later, with Jools" but a whole evening could get a bit much

Hi Prof and FF

I've only just discovered Elbow and find their music quite diverse - some I like and some not so much.

Want brightening up this Sunday evening? Here's an artist that could do with a lot more recognition. Singer-songwriter
Newton Faulkner with Clouds .....

Great stuff, I had not heard of Sandy Denny - really enjoyed it. And on that link I found a link to Stacey Kent, another new one for me.

These guys are doing some interesting things as a flute, bass and cello trio (it shouldn't work but it does).

Hey Scara - good to see you. :)

"Sweet Pea" - certainly an interesting arrangement and, as you say, it seems to work!

These two pieces suit the flute very well, as it can be played in a 'perky' manner.
