Robert Wilson was a wee bit before my time;
Besides, If Sydney Devine idolised him, there must be a problem there..

Robert Wilson is before everybodies time. Perhaps he will one day get the same Mel Gibson treatment that William Wallace got.

I have a ''music for pleasure'' Mono album somewhere, 'Down in the Glen' although I no longer have the means to play it.

I think Robert Wilson was just a little too serious, had a life with a little too much pathos, and too little connection with the ''White Heather Club'' in it's heydey to be part of the great Scots Kitsch revival and his work is altogether devoid of that great existential scottish philosophical question '' The whereabouts of Donald's lower garments''.

I can just about remember the White Heather Club.
It was McGregor &Hall who first got me interested in Scottish Traditional stuff.
I like everything from Gaberlunzie to Malinky, the Battlefield Band ( all of them ) to Wolfstone.

My mum used to like Sydney, unfortunately. I believe it was Divine intervention when the new Hi-Fi I bought didn't have a tape facility, and I ( all have sinned...) lied and told her S.D hadn't any CDs out.
I lost my Mum a couple of years ago. She is 'promoted to glory'.
The S.D. tapes experienced the inside of a wheelie bin.

As a Scotsman in exile who was born in Scotland then moved south of the border down Hemel Hempstead way I have cherished everything Scots. Like all of a presbyterian cultural inheritance
my parents had a fairly Spartan record collection containing the obligatory Mantovani and Rogers and Hammerstein film soundtrack. My father though somehow appropriated a cupboard full of Youngers Tartan promotional flexible 45 RPM'S for some reason.

I suppose having such a spartan collection reminded them of the bare hills one could see from my Grannie's Scottish Special.

These days the only new music that really catches my attention tends to be retro flavoured anyway,I love Adele for example but what really excites me is finding an old tune I've never heard before and making up for lost time by playing it over and over.I could spend all night on youtube and often do.

Hi Prof yeah I really like Adele she has such style on stage fantastic lyrics too, amazing talent.

My favourite song at the moment is Aloe Blacc I need a dollar

no point putting a link they don't work any more  :(

Sure you know it though

He is trying to be the first person banned.....
Predicted it, himself so if Jack Swan isn't him. Then I would advise Jack Swan not to ban him.
Would really annoy the little shine a light.
Whoops! now put your pinkie away duck and get some real posting done.
If you haven't forgotten how to.... How the ears these days? Well at 8yrs of age, it must be some time. ;)

Is that Other Person or Opening Post/er?
If it is the latter, then my mother has passed away and so has my Father.

Hiya,

Can I just post a link here to my favourite piece of classical guitar music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Du4F4mQkXRo

It's called "La Catedral" by Augustin Barrios Mangore (usually referred to as "Barrios"), beautifully performed by Denis Azabagic. It was originally written in two parts (the first part was added later) and it evokes the calm of the Cathedral followed by the bustle of the market square outside.

For any guitar buffs out there, look out for Part III (Allegro Solemne) in particular - it's astonishing. I've been trying to learn it for years, but my fingers seem to be moving slower rather quicker, so maybe I should stop posting here and go practice instead!

Enjoy.

Wow, absolutely stunning - particularly Part III.  I could spend the next 50 years practising that and get nowhere near.  Took long enough to master Memmingen (Ritchie Blackmore). Where are those extra fingers when you need them.

Thanks for that BHS, cracking stuff.

In the wake of all the uncharitable, ignorant comments about her death, I'm going to nominate anything by Amy Winehouse.

Uncharitable? Possibly.
Ignorant? Why?

I will listen to  Back To Black again but it doesn't mean I have much sympathy for her situation.
Actually deaths of artists send me back to thir work so in the last year or so I've revisited the work of Ronnie James Dio, Gary Moore & Bruce Springsteen because of Clarence Clemons.
In the last week I've been listening to 90's Mot?rhead due to the death of ex-guitarist Worzell

Have any of you come across Keith Medley?

Keith Medley makes beautiful music on his own creation; the one-of-a-kind 27-string guitar:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lo5mvTfYSQY

Keith is an amazing talent as a musician, guitarist and master luthier. He designed and built his Medley 27-string guitar in order to play the music in his head.

I used to read the Good Book, but then I discovered some even better Books..
