4 walkovers in the Mixed Doubles. I get why Williams and Kyrgios pulled out, Kyrgips's injury that meant he pulled out while playing Auger Alissime, but it's a large number on one day

I don't follow much tennis, but there do seem to be a higher number of retirements than usual, this year. Is it the condition of the courts, I know there were some comments earlier in the tournament, or are there competitors who haven't had the usual run of events coming into Wimbledon to get up to match fitness? Or just happenstance?

It's difficult to tell. Some like Konta may be affected by Track and Trace. There was a bit at the start where the grass seemed to have an effect but that is less apparent now. The match practise thing depends on who but we also lost a week between the French and Wimbledon as a gap, and that makes the change from clay to grass harder. There's also an impact of ranking points still having some extra protection because of Covid that means most players are less likely to worry about pulling out.

ETA Radacanu's withdrawal was because of breathing difficulties, so it would seem to he very specific, though there are many possible causes.

6 players new to the quarter finals in the men's with some good young players in Shapovalov, Auger Aliassime. Good to see those players who promised previously Berrettini, Khachanov, and Hurkacz and a bit of a surprise in Fucsovics. And yet, and yet Federer and particularly Djokovic.

The nonsense spouted by Piers Morgan and Kevin Pietersen about Raducanu was deeply unpleasant.

Odd that in what has been seen as an incredibly open tournament in the women's that we have the top 2 seeds, Barty and Sabalenka, a two time Wimbledon champion, Kerber, and a former world number 1, Pliskova

Hurkacz breaks in second game 3rd set. Federer's forehand has been a bit off all the way through the tournament. This is as bad as it's been. There is s very strong possibility that we are watching his las match at Wimbledon now.

I do wonder if we might even hear of Federer retiring today or tomorrow. He's always very considered but losing that last set 6-0 must hurt. It's never happened to him at Wimbledon.

I remember years ago there used to be a series of events for the 'oldies', the sort of veterans circuit! Does this still happen - when covid 19 is not around to spoil everything?
