Rublev's win means he will at least move up to Number 7 in the rankings, a new career high, and if he wins the final wpuld move up to 6.

Federer now drops to 8, and Zverev would fall to 7.

Another good win for Evans in the doubles in Barcelona ; he's now up to 52 in the doubles ranking.

I see Jamie Murray is in an odd doubles pairing this week in Barcelona with Ivan Dodig. I presume they are a scratch pair with Soares, Murray's current normal partner out, and something similar perhaps with Polasek, Dodig's partner.

The changes and ups and downs because of the covid 19 have certainly shaken the tennis world during the last twelve months.

I am astonished given everything that they have managed to hold anything like as many tournaments that they have. Yesterday France had over 40,000 cases of Covid and yet they've just held a tournament in Monte Carlo.

Do you think it looks as if Jokovic has come to more or less the end of his successes?

That would he a bit harsh given he won the Australian Open as his 19th Slam title only a couple of months ago, is ranked No1 , and has recently taken the record of most weeks at No1 for men.
At his best, he is still the best player on the tour, it maybe though that he is less often at his best but it may just be that in this odd time his motivation is less consistent.

Karatsev though is the tennis story of the year so far. Ranked 115 at the start of the year, now ranked 27, and in terms of year to date points 5th.

Big win for Norrie over Garin the second seed. He will now play Cilic who beat Anderson. Anderson retired which given his injury problems will be a worry.

In the BMW Open Ivashka, a qualifier, puts out top seed Zverev.

Evans wins first round in Madrid against Chardy.

Jamie Murray back playing with Soares but knocked out in first round.
