I happened to turn on Five Live at the very moment when the last point was played in the Evans match!

Huge win for Raducanu.

Osaka loses and the press conference looked like she was having a breakdown
It's a brutal, very sad watch.

I turned on FiveLive just in time to hear the last two points of Raducanu's win!

Another huge, and hugely impressive win for Raducanu. Up to a provisional 74 in the rankings. If she wins the quarter final, she will be the number one ranked UK woman.

Looking at the women's quarter finals and despite a number of top seeds, 2, 4, 5, 8, 11, being in, none of the women have won a slam before.

Not surprisingly in the men's, of those in the quarter finals, only Djokovic has won a slam. At the start of the tournament only Murray and Cilic were other Slam winners. Some intriguing match ups with a repeat of the Wimbledon final between Djokovic and Berrettini, a clash of the young in Auger Aliassime finding himself unusually the older player, against Alcaraz.

Amazing performances by Van de Zandschulp, who I watched play an excellent match against Berrettini at Wimbledon. He's having a great year.

Luckily, I turned on the radio just at the start and listened all the way through; definitely a very good mmatch and mostly good comentating, but annoying when they talk about irrelevant things during the first serve and so on. Do they think we are all watching as well as listening?!!

I listened to the whole match! Amazing! Russell Fuller and the female commentator from New York are brilliant - you don't miss a stroke - but Dave something and Naomi something, commentating from the Come Dancing studio, are extremelyk irritating because they seem to assume that those listening are also watching and they talk statistics etc over the serve and although they do describe maybe most of the shots, I'd really like to remind them firmly that some people listen because they cannot watch. *deep sigh*

I shall certainly be listening to the Final on Saturday.

I not sure if I heard this correctly - but I think they said on the radio that this was the first time a qualifier (male or female) had ever made it to the final of a gand slam tournament. Like, ever!! If that is correct that is quite an achievement regardless of whether or not she wins.

These people seem to think so:

So often these types of achievements are 'caveated' - but if she is genuinely the first, man or woman, to reach a final as a qualifier that is quite amazing.

I think they are wrong about the 3 victories stat, as I think the Chicago tournament where she reached the final  is a WTA 125 tournament and so her victories there count but agree that the overall stat is correct and quite amazing.

Yes, they definitelyk said that.

I tried to phone FiveLive to complain about the commentary, but after waiting for ages the phone just cut off

Thanks, Trent. Emma is a lovely player to watch, incredible speed across the court and great defence techniques. Amazing, as people are saying, for one so young. What is exciting is she has years ahead of her and for us all to enjoy.

That was a brilliant final, and well commentated on fortunately. Emma Raducanu was certainly the better player.
