Who should it be, when Mandip Gill bows out as Yaz? Two previous companions have been from the past: Victoria, who was from the 19th Century, and Jamie, an early 18th Century Scot who'd been "out in the '45", as they used to say. How about an American Confederate soldier from the Civil war, who is a decent bloke who hates slavery, which would be interestingly complex? Or a Dr Who/Star Trek crossover, with a Vulcan or Klingon companion? Or a visibly disabled companion (I know Ryan was supposed to have dyspraxia, but t wasn't obvious most of the time). They could bring back Ellie Wallwork as Hanne, the blind Norwegian teenager we met a year or two ago, or have Francesca Martinez, the comedian and actor with CP, as a companion.
