Theoretically possible, even though the 'Daily Mail' says so. However, I think I'll reserve judgement until a proper newspaper confirms it.

Yes, this idea has been gaining traction for a while and seems quite plausible.

Considering some of the comments on this Forum, the last three paragraphs of this item gave me a giggle!

https://edition.cnn.com/interactive/2020/health/coronavirus-maps-and-cases/

Even today China is showing a total of 91300 cases which is 7 per 100000 of population....and deaths of 4636 which is less than 1 per 100000 of population.

Amazing!

Another article on the subject.

That is a very interesting article. The questions clearly need further investigation, especially since no evidence wrt. intermediary hosts has turned up.

Now, if it were the case that the pandemic was started by a leak of the Cov-2 virus from a Chinese lab, even created by gain-of-function experiments funded directly or indirectly by money for defence - where does that leave us?  Outlook is not good.

Yes, and then we have Dr Anthony Fauci funding a highly dangerous coronavirus study that was once banned at the Wuhan Virus Research Institute. Fauci being the medical lead under Trump's administration.

Fauci also predicted a forthcoming pandemic back in 2017:

..... oh really, Mr Fauci?! smh..

The claims about Fauci funding gain-of-function research at WIV are, at best, unproven.
https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/fauci-gain-function-covid/

Also, it has been part of his role to warn about epidemic preparedness for many years.

Overall, I can't see that he has done anything irresponsible or morally wrong personally wrt. covid.

The nature of the relationship between the US and research at the WIV is, of-course, questioned in Owlswing's link.

If Tucker Carlson says it, it must be bollocks.

Well, this is interesting from Senator Ron Johnson:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGtPrEY7Q5U

.... and for Fauci to be so adamant that a 'surprise' outbreak would occur in 'the next administration' i.e. the Trump administration and there would be 'great challenges' is one heck of a coincidence.

If Tucker Carlson says it, it must be bollocks.

Tucker Carlson once won a libel suit because his lawyers argued that no reasonable person would believe what he said.

If he was guilty, he'd hardly advertise the fact, would he? As it is, it's a mild coincidence, not "one heck of" one. In fact, it's not even that: he made an expert prediction, and got it right. Well, butter my bottom and call me a crumpet! ::)
And another thing: this Ron Johnson character is, apparently, a keen Trump supporter and an inveterate promoter of loony conspiracy theories, supported the yobs who stormed the Capitol, promoted electoral fraud nonsense, and in general is a hard-right nutcase. I think his videos can be disregarded.
