...is the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Aleghieri? I've marked it on my calendar, and intend to finally start reading 'The Divine Comedy' then. I've had an old, pre-WW1 edition of Henry Cary's 1814 translation for decades, and recently bought a copy of the 1979 Folio Society edition, trans. Kenneth MacKenzie. Both have the engravings by John Flaxman, who was a friend of William Blake - there is a distinct similarity to Blake's style in the engravings. I will read the Cary version, I think.
Anyone read it, either in translation or the original?
