Draper and Evans through, Norrie out.

In the women's, Swiatek knocked out, leaving Pegula the highest seed left in the draw at 7. Looking at who is left in the draw,  Gauff looks strong, and we perhaps have the emergence of a new star in Qinwen Zhang.

Evans wins but Draper out, and Kyrgios loses to Hyrkacz. Both Evans and Hurkacz are in the semi finals of the doubles aa well.

Halep knocks out Gauff, and Haddad Maia becomes the first Brazilian woman in the semi finals of a 1000 WTA tournament

Evans loses in the singles semi final but goes through to the doubles final.

A couple of interesting matches for British players in Cincinnati with Raducanu playing Serena Williams, and Murray playing Wawrinka.

Murray and Norrie through after tough matches and will now play each other.

At Montreal Gauff's win in the doubles means she is now ranked the No 1 women's doubles player.

And Raducanu beats Azarenka 6-0 6-2 which means she's beaten two former world No1s with 25 Slams for a total loss of 6 games.

And that's the way it should be now that Murray is older, but I hope it was not too one-sided and that it was not marred by anythin confrontational.

Nadal loses in his return. He's currently way ahead in the year to date points race but a big run from any of a number of players in the indoor season could see them end as year end number 1.

Coric beats Norrie and will face Tsitsipas in the final. In the women's Kvitova and Garcia will play. The US Open looks very open on both men and women's competitions.

And Coric and Garcia win in straight sets. He's the lowest ranked qualifier to win a Masters 1000 tournament in men's, and she's the first qualifier to win a Women's 1000 tournament.

Draper into quarter finals in Winston Salem tournament beating the returning (slowly) Thiem but beating a former US Open Champion the week before the US Open starts is a good boost.

Successful day for Murray beating the 24th seed Cerundulo, Draper, and particularly Dart beating Kasatkina who after a couple of recent tournament wins had moved into the top ten and was a reasonable bet for the whole thing. Edmunds list to Ruud but that is no disgrace given Ruud is the 5th seed.

Couple of other shocks with Tsitsipas and Fritz losing in the men's, and Halep in the women's.

Meanwhile huge celebrations were held around Serena Williams match, but given she won, all going to have to happen again when she plays the second seed Kontaveitt

That sounds like a good start for Murray, but I think the Serena rapturous welcome that I listened to part of on FiveLive was just the teenniest bit OTT!

I think the thing with Serena is that she's bigger than her success in tennis. She's a breakthrough athlete for US black women. Add to that that it takes place at the US Open which is the most racuous of the Slams, and on the iconic Arthur Ashe court.

Norrie and Evans through, Raducanu out. 4 UK men in second round in US - couldn't tell you last time that happened.
Match ups are Murray vs Nava - US wild card that Murray should beat
Draper vs Auger Aliassime - tough match
Evans vs Duckworth - not easy but Evans should win
Norrie vs Sousa - and Norrie should win

In the women's Dart vs Galfi - very even match up.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/62720093

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/62733471

Elsewhere in the women's 2 former champions knocked out in Venus Williams, and Osaka. Venus definitely not a surprise, and Osaka only a bit of a surprise.

More surprising was Rybakina, the Wimbledon champion's loss to Burel. It's been obvious though that all is not right with Rybakina who feels the lack of points at Wimbledon has affected her ranking, undeniable, and the stature of her win, possibly.
