Call me a cynic by all means but Djokovic's medical exemption seems a tad convenient:

The first player to be knocked out of a grand slam tournament after missing only two shots.

Canada to play Spain in ATP Cup Final. The 2 teams with the highest ranked second singles player - so not a huge surprise.

Canada beat Spain in the ATP Cup. Shapovalov and Auger Aluassime are a formidable team, though a full strength Russian team would still likely win most matches.

Also tournament wins for Barty in her first tournament since the US Open, Halep making her way back from injury, and Anisimova after a bad year or so.

Also tournament  wins for Nadal, and Monfils - which is good to see, particularly Monfils who has had a hard couple of years.

I'm sorry he lost, but it sounds as if it was a good match to watch. I really hope he does well in the Australian Open.

Yes, and he is now provisionally back in the top 100 (ok, he's at number 100, and may drop a couple of places dependent on later results but it is still signs of progress. Basilashvili is a good player.

Looking at the provisional rankings Federer has lost a lot of points due to not playing. Dependent on when he returns he could be out of the top 32.

So Raducanu, Watson, and Evans win, with Broady and Dart losing.

I've been to Salisbury today to meet baby Maisie, who is of course gorgeous.  Reuben was there too so it was just delightful. Two next week, Reuben is talking  more and everybody is well.

On the radio before I left, I heard that Liam Brody had lost, but the score, which I can't find, did not sound like a bad one, so I hope it will give him encouragement.

It was 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. He made a lot of good progress in Challenger tournaments last year. He's at his highest ever ranking.

Thank you for Liam Brody's score.
In the next post there is a panel with words in which voice doesn't read. Is it a joke or something?

It is a joke SD. It goes along the lines of "The English Cricket Board have decided to employ Novak Djokovic, admittedly he knows nothing about cricket but it did take Australia 2 weeks to get him out."
