How come when I look at this thread on my phone I see the relevant colours but when I use my PC all the wee squares have no colour, except for a couple of posts by jeremy: for instance #52 I see 4 black squares in the first line but, from looking at my phone, I can see that there were 3 blacks on the second line but they are all blank using my PC- any ideas?

It's probably the font or character set. The squares are created by using unicode characters from the "geometric shapes extended" plane which is a relatively new part of Unicode.  Your PC might not have the relevant "glyphs".
