I met him a few times, albeit a few years ago now, when his health was better - he lived fairly locally I think (Strathblane/Killearn area).

Very talented and friendly too.

Balfron. Met him a few times in late 80s in The Ubiquitous Chip bar. Also remember seeing him in 1985 in the University Cafe on Byres Rd where he was sitting with that woman (Emma Thompson) who he had been in that thing with (Alfresco) during their making of Tutti Frutti

Loved him as Dr Johnson in 'Blackadder the Third'. https://youtu.be/vDVxq76-qOw
I once tried using "chicken" as a password, but was told it must contain a capital so I tried "chickenkiev"
On another occasion, I tried "beefstew", but was told it wasn't stroganoff.

My only gripe with Blackadder the third - which is a joy to watch - is that Boswell's dad, Lord Auchinleck, wasn't included. He'd have been a brilliant character, and the late Johnny Beattie would have been a shoe-in for the role.
"for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

Tutti Frutti has been being shown on BBC4 over the last few days and is available on iPlayer.

Even after all these years and many rewatches, the last couple of episodes are shocking in their darkness.
