So what - schools are allowed to change their name. Several round my way have over the years.

From what I can see this looks like a relatively new school so I doubt there is any meaningful link to Drake, beyond the notion that Drake had a south east London link. If the school community wish to change the name, why not. They seem to have very strong support for the change - rather more so than a few other 'name changes' I could think of. A good example is the bridge known universally as the second Severn crossing that suddenly was renamed the Prince of Wales bridge, but without any clamour nor community support.

The names of things, places, institutions change from time to time and for a whole range of reasons - get over it.
