Bugger.

Bugger indeed. I discounted the purple category even though I did identify it as I couldn't find a fourth word for it, and having seen the word it still makes no sense to me.

I would say that one of them I felt was a boy old fadhioned but it was in common use when I was growing up. There may be a regional element in the UK as well as an American aspect behind the NYT usage.

Got obsessed with purple.

Have to say, one of the blue answers had nothing to do with the category, or at least so I thought.

Having now seen the answers, I don't think three of the blues really fit the category: they can do, but don't normally.

I think everyone's played that's likely to (avert your eyes if not), so...

"bouillon" means "stock". It is liquid, so only cubical if you pour it into a cubical container. A bouillon cube is another matter. Ditto ice and sugar.

They are things that come in cubes. I think your is that the title could be phrased better not that the items don't fit. After all a die diesn't have to be cube shaped either.

They are things that can come in cubes, although I'd never heard of a bouillon cube before. I assume it is like a stock cube.

A die, on the other hand is a thing that is a cube, normally, unless you play D&D.

I probably would have got it if I hadn't spent so much time trying to figure out the purple category.

I suspect that "bouillon cube" is what Yanks call what we call a stock cube.

Purple should have been much easier for me. I was even getting annoyed with myself because I kept making the association for one of the words in my head but rejecting it because the others didn't appear to fit.

This may be overthinking things, but since we started making this word game on the other thread, I have found these puzzles easier. Furthermore, I did both boards on Only Connect last night. Which is the first time ever. (I freeze-frame it at the beginning and try to work it out.)

Seems entirely reasonable. There's a pattern of 5hought, and a process that makes stuff easier. Setting the home made ones gives insight in how you might think of connections running into each other.

I think the Only Connect wall remains far harder than the NYT one but the basic approach is the same, and getting used to the process of elimination is a good one. On the home made thread because of the unlimited guesses, I finfmd that I do take risks a bit more but it also allows a certain amount of experimentation which is useful.

I got completely stuck on 'Wordle', which is impossible today, so decided to have a break and do 'Connections'. I didn't do much better there.

Green and yellow were easy. I saw the group category for purple eventually,, but had never heard of one of the items therein. I had no idea with blue.
