Which ones would you say are a stretch? Purple all seemed completely fine to me and blue was also reasonable but slightly American oriented.

Although I did get purple by accident because I got the category completely wrong.

I was just being a bit dumb with purple.

Blue, my issue was that while sad is a synonym for blue, it's not really for pornographic rather than erotic and It's not realky a synonym as it has to be added as an adjective. Similarly for Democratic - I think it would have worked better with Democrat as it's only as an adjective in specific circumstances will it be interchangeable, and again other than with blood, noble isn't a synonym. Nothing wrong just a bit messy.

Fairly easy, once I'd rejected a few red herrings. The green connection was pathetic, which is why I got it last - I'd rejected it as another red herring.

I would have got there if I hadn't fallen into the obvious trap twice. I knew the yellow category but couldn't guess the correct combination of words with the amount of guesses I had left.

I recognised both the purple and yellow categories but had a bit of trouble sorting them. I am not keen on the cheese category as it relies on American usage. But it is the NYT so hey ho.
