Typical of this country. We know the price of everything and the value of nothing. (Dear Oscar, Slightly misquoted)
Before we work on Artificial Intelligence shouldn't we address the problem of natural stupidity.

On 'Nationwide' in 1974, when it was called 'The Glynne Arms'.

And it's gone

I hope the fire investigators had enough time to determine the cause. My money is on the current owner being responsible.

This is tangentially relevant, planning-permission-wise: fortunately, this one was a lot easier to reverse. Seems to me that retrospective planning permission should be abolished, and developers etc. obliged to do things in the correct order - permission first - or face the consequences, including reversing the illegal work where possible.

I don't agree. In circumstances where planning permission would have been granted, it's stupid to make people reverse the changes, reapply, get the permission and then redo the changes.

Agree - the worry in this case and similar is that it does appear that NH is out of control, and has been for some time.

Why can't they apply for permission in the first place?

It's not obvious to me what National Highways sought to achieve with the bridge infill nonsense. Did they think it was going to fall down?

Two more people arrested

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-66951166

It doesn't say who they were but Carly Taylor - one of the owners - is the same age as the arrested woman.
