...according to the latest 'Private Eye', because the cost comes out of the foreign aid budget, so don't believe the Tories' typically mendacious appeal to selfishness. Of course, it does mean that the amount sent overseas is reduced, but if asylum seekers were allowed to work, they'd cost a lot less, and anyway the foreign aid budget should be increased from the current measly 0.5% of gross national income (down from 0.7%) to (say) 1%.
