I've read the article from Susan Dalgety a number of times now, and I struggle to comprehend the numbers. Following on from her article talking about her own experience of being abused, a number of friends have talked to me about their own experiences, and I am at a loss.

Yes so do I. The one in ten number isn highly suspicious, especially as the bit in the paywalled article that I could read also says

The results also showed that 5 per cent of British men had sexual feelings towards children and had acted upon those feelings

This contradicts the head line unless we are supposed to believe that 5% of British men do not have sexual feelings towards children, have not acted on those feelings and yet still admitted child sex offences.

I think it is likely that the survey is flawed or that the results are being misrepresented.

The numbers still don't stack up. I'm still very suspicious about what this survey actually shows.
I can't find anything more detailed but I think we have to be careful about thinking that the methodology of the survey, or perhaps imo more likely the reporting of it, means that there isn't a significant issue which is more important than either of those.
