But what about climate anxiety anxiety
« on: November 22, 2023, 08:37:14 AM »
There might be an interesting story here but it's presented in that sort of bemused excitement at numbers that makes me unsure as to how much they understand.

If you are going to highlight 3 figures with bullet points, would you really have the first one about an area where the searches for climate change had increased by 93 times, Portugal, and the third where it had gone up by a fifth, 'Arabic countries', if you didn't want the conclusion to be that 'Arabic countries' don't give a fuck?

As to 40% of total queries being generated by Scandinavia, what is then the average number of such queries per head in non Scandinavian countries?

This leaves aside what it is that the purpose of the research is. Something that I'm missing from the article.

It could be indicative that the phenomenon is not well known and what we are seeing is really just noise.

For example, in Portugal, if there was one query last year and twenty three this year, that would account for the figure.

And so what if queries about climate anxiety are going up. This was a thing that nobody even thought about until a couple of years ago. Of course they are going to go up.
