Macron buffeted from all sides in row over secularism
« on: December 09, 2023, 09:03:32 AM »

The French idea of secularism has a place at the centre of its political culture that seems incredible to me. I like its aim but there is a coldness to it.

Another bizarre aspect of French secularism is that the state owns the churches.

Jn my commune there are three churches - effectively owned by the commune. The largest church is used for occasional Catholic services but also, each month, by the local Anglican community.
