This is the sort of issue that needs to be dealt with in a non partisan basis. It needs proper cross agency communication. I hope that politicians from all parties can see that. Mental health still seems to often to be only get lip service.

The police aren't mental health professionals but find themselves dealing with mental health crises. I recall, from my own NHS background, the issue of having on-call emergency mental health teams on a 24/7 basis being discussed several times around 25/30 years ago now, but it never got off the ground - they were too busy closing hospitals and calling it 'care in the community'.
