Yes I heard this this morning - I mean what planet is he living on.

He said that young people simply need to save to be able to get on the property ladder. But given the cost of housing compared to earnings you have to be earning either a fortune or be able to save many tens of thousands, which is of course completely impossible for most young people given the costs of rent and other essential outgoings.

Realistically without the bank of mum and dad it is really, really difficult for a young person on their own to be able to afford to buy a property. Sure together with someone else that may be a bit different - but if buying is a big step, buying with someone else (whether a partner or a friend) is an even bigger step.
