Why Band of Brothers is the last great uncool TV show

Hmmm... it's undoubtedly a technical masterpiece but I'm not sure that you can have:

'And his well-scrubbed, handsome fellow soldiers are almost all wisecracking paragons'

and

'These days, its unvarnished sincerity stands out as its most valuable asset. Committed to getting its facts straight with as little embellishment as possible, it could be the last great uncool television series.'

as part of the same argument.

I've never seen it, though I'd love to. It was filmed partly in Hertfordshire. In particular, the Ayot Greenway, a bike path following an old railway branch line between Wheathampstead and Ayot St Lawrence, which I used to ride along on bike rides occasionally, became a fake railway line, with wooden rails and sleepers. If I ever get a chance to watch it, I will look out carefully for that bit. I have seen 'Saving Private Ryan', also filmed partly in the area.

About the local filming, including photos of the fake railway line.

I once tried using "chicken" as a password, but was told it must contain a capital so I tried "chickenkiev"
On another occasion, I tried "beefstew", but was told it wasn't stroganoff.

That's just the opinion of the writer of the article.

They did get some things wrong. Perhaps the most egregious is the story of Albert Blithe, portrayed by Marc Warren who had an attack of "hysterical blindness" and was later shot and - as portrayed in the TV series - died of his wound in 1948. In fact he recovered and served with distinction in the Korean War. None of the other members of Easy Company knew anything about that.
