Eurovision 2024: Your guide to all 37 songs
« on: May 05, 2024, 04:44:35 PM »
Although having already made its normal appearance in the Politics section with the possible boycott due to the Israeli entry, I suppose it can also appear here. Just the 37 songs...

First semi final down in this completely apolitical contest.

One of the greats of Eurovision, Johnny Logan, sings last year's winning song, Euphoria.

No Dutch rehearsal because of an 'incident'?

In case anyone hasn't noticed the strapline for this year's contest is 'United By Music'.

So it would appear that the investigation into whatever the Netherlands representative may or may not have done is still ongoing so they won't take part in tonight's jury show but their performance from last night's semi final will be shown.

I can see Israel winning the public vote tomorrow with a lot of votes from people who have never voted before, but losing the jury vote.

I didn't watch it.

Two reasons: Israel, but probably more relevant is the fact that having watched it all my life I realised when the coverage started months ago I could not remember last year's winner, or indeed any of last year's songs. So what is the point if the music is so anodyne or annoying, of watching?

I note elsewhere that Loreen wants to write a boring song.

At some stage over the last 30 years, it became a bit too professional and knowing for me to enjoy. I switched to watching the semi finals for a while but then they too succumbed to the hype.

I like my camp iconology, either Eurovision or Doctor Who, to have a whiff of amateurism. I liked crap monsters, and crap dancing but with a lot of determined intensity.

I agree. There is too much polish everywhere. All surface and no depth (even if the depth was, at times, wobbly in the past).

I watched it. Made some pizza and had enough beer ŕo just get through it. I thought Switzerland might do well but I didn't expect it to win. Personally I liked the German entry.

For the first time I felt ashamed of the dreadful quality of the UK entry.  I was actually pleased when it was the only entry to get zero points from the public vote.
