The attempt at Tory policy on this of having the 2030 target plucked from Grant Shapp's arse was always laughable. That it fell into the life of the parliament after this one made it look plausibly deniable at the same time. I can't see that they are going to make much headway with the argument against Starmer and Labour that it's a bad thing not to make shit up without proper details.
Given though, that it is a cast iron commitment, in the way to a Nato summit less than a week after being elected, it will be interesting to see whether this becomes symbolic of Starmer's premiership whatever may happen. The contrast witn Sunak's slipping away from the D Day Commemorations ties into the narrative.
