Apologies aren't enough - the organisation failed and surely someone in the CofE should accept responsibility and resign.

Quite apart from Smyth's appalling abuse, the whole idea of these elitist camps, taking boys by invitation only from major public schools - not any old public schools, just the top ones like Eton and Winchester - is deeply un-Christian.

I was talking to someone today who says that Welby is likely to be removed by the end of the week as he hasn't been honest about the way he has dealt with this terrible abuse. Although they don't live in the UK they are in a position to know what goes on in the CofE.

Anyone got an idea on how you remove an ABoC?

Maybe Charles says 'Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?'

What, and get rid of the news story that's keeping his charges to the NHS off the front pages?

I suspect Welby will be gone without him but in case anyone is wondering what Outrider is referring to I presume it is this, as mentioned in the thread, second link,

And he's gone, though it hardly deals with the disgrace of how the CoE handled this.

Don't think he had much choice - time to detach the C of E from their privileged role in state politics, especially given the decline of Christianity in general and let them swim along with all the other religious groups. Had to laugh at one bishop claiming they were the 'national' church when, as their name implies, there aren't.

Welby's statement. Feels off to me by trying to excuse himself too much

His last sentence is fucking nonsense: not my 'hope'. Why on earth do these people assume that their nonsensical beliefs apply to the rest of us by default.

He's sort of obliged to add that stuff.

True - but that it's headline news is plain silly: I can't imagine many of my fellow citizens of Bearsden & Milngavie give a flying fuck about what a soon to be ex-cleric in the C of E says about him failing to put people first when he could have done.

I've not ever been desperately bothered about the CoE being established but I don't see how they can deal with this while remaining established. It's not a good deal for them.
