Everybodies working for the weekend😀
« on: March 10, 2025, 09:37:00 AM »
Dear Fellow Posters,

I honestly thought this was a new question ( ego we all suffer from it ) anyway, the whole idea of a weekend, my question is, the weekend is it dead but a quick google and this question is already out there.

I myself work mostly weekend ( I feel lucky that I can have this choice ) but in my work life without fail I encounter " oh God is it only Monday" or "I wish it was the weekend" or "woohoo its Friday" Monday to Friday someone will come out with similar expressions.

I personally feel that this thinking "weekend thinking" is outdated, I don't think anyone can argue that this world is now 24/7.

And yes I know its Monday, so if you are at your place of work, never mind only four more days ;D :D :-X

I will now read posts very carefully and then using the two God given brains cells that I have reply as if I am talking to a two year old, yes that should suffice as a gentle reminder✝️✝️✝️❤️

The idea of a 'universal' weekend, where all the 'right' people had time away from their workplace (but the oiks, obviously, didn't) has probably gone away, but I don't think the concept of the weekend has disappeared yet. There's still a massive majority of people whose working days are between Monday and Friday, and certainly rush-hour traffic on Saturdays and Sundays isn't a patch on the weekend.

Tourism and entertainment pricing is pitched on the expectation that weekends are more popular than weekdays, sporting events are still predominantly Saturday and Sunday affairs. There's a bit of rebalancing to the idea of the weekend not being quite so 'sacrosanct' as might once have been the case - I can't see the Sunday trading laws lasting much longer, for instance, at least in their current form - but the cultural norm is still that people are typically eyeing a Monday-Friday job as the norm. I think the idea of 9-5 is probably more at risk than Monday-Friday working hours.

So if the weekend is dead - that's why we see "everybodies" instead of "everybody's".

Although no country has fully adopted a 4 day work week, many of the countries below are experimenting with one or have a short average working week.

I think this a more interesting idea. (For some, probably me; work Mon and Tues, take Wednesday away then work Thursday and Friday. Use Wednesday  for'informal work' (e.g. go to a gym, study an open University course etc...?)

I like it. It's something to look forward to. Granted, i work Monday to Friday, so it's only natural, but I like that I have two days me time. Yes, we live in a 24/7 world but I like that there are at least two days a week, in theory at least, that are dedicated to R&R.

Dear JP,

Weekmiddle, yes I can definitely work with that, might just use that next time somebody says "oh I wish it was Friday" :)
