Hi folks

I'm a tax exile from Paisley who currently lives in Nottingham.

I don't believe in any of the gods that people worship but I wouldn't say I'm an atheists as I do accept there's a minuscule chance that I may be wrong.  At times my views can be strong ones but I always respect the fact that people are just as entitled to their view as I am  to mine.

I like travel and have been around the Far East a few times.

I still listen to Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Wishbone Ash, Rory Gallagher, etc,  That's because I never really got out of 1972
Is that R Scott there? If you are posting from Poland I do not find you amusing.
I am going to sack your sheep and take over his desk to keep and eye on you.
I will also expect to travel first class on the train as the sheep does.

 ;D :P :P

Hello everyone  8)

Greetings Dove.  :)

Don't associate with that atheist lot. I heard they eat babies.

I love babies, but I couldn't eat a whole one.

Greetings folks - Long-time lurker - decided to actually contribute to conversations. Don't know what else to write here, perhaps should mention I am an ex-muslim but still a cultural muslim or as I like to describe myself (some say an oxymoron) an athiest muslim.
I am my own worst enemy and best friend, a bit of a squeeze on a 3/4 bed tho... There is no good or bad, just shades of life... Footloose and fancy-free, forced to fit, now fated to fly, free,  forever... One or two words, 3 and her 3 thirds, looking all comely and lonely, till I made them homely.

Nearly Sane - I was never a poster on the old religion ethics BBC forum - I used to post on a different BBC forum - more ethnic than ethic. But was familiar with the religion ethics BBC forum.

BK Baracus - Thank you.

Cymrudynnion - athiest muslim or muslim athiest, not quite sure. Perhaps it works if the word muslim is used in a political sense rather than a religious sense.

Welcome, Arch! Many will say you don't exist, but you have provided clear, irrefutable evidence. Hope you enjoy posting here.

Ahhh - in the same way we have atheist Jews - people who are ethno-culturally Jewish but don't believe in the religion part?

Gotcha

So Arch, why now?
Long time lurker and suddenly now you are posting.
Why did you become an atheist? Would be good to start a thread about your journey to disbelief.

Welcome on board.... ;D

Yeh Arch tell us of your road to reality  ;)
I believe in everything until it's disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it's in your mind. Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now?

Thanks to all above (Betty, FSM)who have offered me a warm welcome. I will try to tackle some of the points raised.

Yes, BK Baracus - you indeed have got it - though some will say that jews are a race not a religion  - so they can be athiest and still be a jew, whereas muslims are a religion but not a race - I say that there are black jews from Ethiopia that I have heard of, surely they are not of the same race as European jews and also on a religion(ethics) board my identity stemming from religion is one of a muslim. Otherwise my identity is British Pakistani.

Yes Prof, sometimes it is difficult to tell them apart, after all most of us have brown skin. Seriously though it is a bit like asking someone who you meet who hails from Northern Ireland whether they are protestant or catholic (usually one of my first questions) and if they reply neither I am an athiest, my follow-up question would be is that athiest catholic or athiest protestant (or more accurately non-catholic). Also I would say the emotional mind lags behind the rational mind.

For instance, I don't eat pork, hardly drink, pray once a week (fridays - so that is once out of the possible 35), keep fasts but dont believe in the divinity of Islam or the existence of God. Possibly a mass of contradictions. Perhaps I describe myself as a athiest muslim and not just an athiest because I am proud, so to speak, of my cultural upbringing, of being a Pakistani - others in the same position are perhaps embarrased by their cultural upbringing - have identity crisis - hate Islam because of specific reasons. I as a heterosexual male have not a lot to fear from Islam as manifested in my culture.

The Lord's Way - I lurk on a few forums - some I visit once a day to others once a month - the reason why I decided to post now, is that I 'usually' post in one forum, and last week I banned for 3 months from a muslim forum(they are so thin-skinned)and needed a forum to fulfil the itch. Not that I am a prolific poster, usually a week on- a week off etc.

Also both you and Gonnagle have asked about my fall from grace. Not that interesting really, was about 11 when I asked my mother if Allah made us who made him, to be met with 'we shouldn't really ask those sort of questions'. Hmm. Plus the fact that I hail from the more puritanical end of islam the 'wahabis' it wasn't long before my natural rebelliousness and inquiring mind overcame the indoctrination.

That was more than twenty years ago. Not enough time now to go into further detail.

Kenturah - re jelly babies - I pop them in whole.

There was a poster on the BBC boards who used the same moniker, but he usually posted on the Jewish board.

I was referring to the distinction between political and purely religious  Islam, if such a thing exists.

Some say politics is the new religion.
