Click on the 'browse' button and it'll give you an 'open file' dialogue window to find the picture on your PC.

It's nice to have a board to replace the Beeb. I missed it when it closed the England board (many moons ago - yep, I'm an addicted Beeb poster from way back when!) and only found out about the newest old one after watching The Big Questions. Anyone else see a pattern emerging lol

BTW - I laugh a fair bit and take very few things too seriously. Can we have a laugh smiley and a whistle smiley - I use those two a lot!

Hi everyone

I'm Jane. I'm 36 and a teacher of primary school pupils. I live in a very lovely part of Essex but teach in a less lovely part.

I posted on the BBC for the first time last summer and was sad to see it go, so thanks Jakswan this looks like a really good format.

I call myself an atheist now, although I have a belief in something. At present I can't articulate to my own satisfaction what that is, but God won't do any more.

I am very much anti theist. I think religion damages and stunts people's growth, causes hate, misery and general intolerence and ignorance. Although the religious do make me laugh, so it's not all bad....

The lack of the BBC CT board has turned out to be quite painless really! Reminds me of the line in the song, 'I like to be in America', from 'West Side Story' - Everyone there will have moved here.'

Anyway, I have started on one of the two tasks I intend to pursue, i.e. in the time I'd have spent on CT,over the next six months - improving my web site! The other one is to listen to all of my CDs and decide which ones I will probably not want to listen to again.

Anybody else set themselves some new goals?

About me: well I'm an atheist, but in a 'mixed faith' marriage (my wife is a practising catholic). Interests, choral singing with my secular choir (we do loads of sacred stuff), all sorts of other music, football, good food and drink and general family stuff (3 fairly young kids). My line of business - well you can work that out from my username.

Secular choir - i.e. not linked to any religious organisation, open to people of any faith or none.

But often does the standard (and not so standard) repertoire of sacred classical choral music - Bach masses, Vivaldi gloria etc etc. About to do the Verdi requiem. But not atheist, although a concert or two ago one of our more christian members refused to sing one piece that she felt was 'anti-christian' - quite how I (and the rest of the choir) never worked out.

Prof when you sing a song like the above, do you notice any change in you.

Reason I ask, a composer, famous composer, modern day composer, sorry can't remember the chaps name, he is an atheist,
I watched a documentary about sacred music and this chap said that he cannot write Christian music unless he thinks about God.

Singing brings an huge sense of well-being, but it doesn't matter to me whether the words are sacred or not. There are certain latin phrases that are very satisfying to sing - they sort of work, but that's all about the actual words, not what they mean - so were they in English rather than latin that level of satisfaction would be lost to me. Sure there'll be christians who feel differently, but that's just how it feels to me.
