The problem with you and me, Leonard James, is we agree on too many topics, so we seldom have an exchange, which is sad, because there is no poster, all the way back to the early days of the Beeb, I have enjoyed posting with more than you.

Now about the grit, I have decided to redirect the grit mostly to the topic at hand and not the poster, forums are supposed to be a non contact sport, but I tend to leave figurative bruises and lacerations on certain posters. Change comes grudgingly later in life, but I am optimistic about my chances.

Tomorrow, LJ, I intend to really let my hair down, and, yes, ladies, I am grateful i still have my hair, and start a thread about a topic that genuinely interests me, and on which, I must modestly admit, I am expert. In all my years posting, I've never nailed this topic down satisfactorily; the posts generally got knocked down on the BBC for being off topic and I never could find a category where the thread would not be off topic, or so the mods determined such, and later, on this forum when i could post on the topic, I was too jaded from past BBC experience to bother.

Being the sceptic I am it seems a little strange that just after Phil/Ralph is permanently banned again, a new poster pops up, especially as there has been no new ones for a couple of months. If Helen is a genuine poster then I humbly apologise for my scepticism!

Problem is surely when a new member joins, cynicism openly expressed is never the correct response since in the case of being wrong it is far more costly and unpleasant than the fleeting joy of being right if one's cynicism was correct?

In this case it would appear that scepticism was the right response!

Only if you are happier to make the board unwelcoming and being right than to have a board that is welcoming.

So, you're happy to welcome clones or sockpuppets of banned members? ;)
Are your, or your friends'/relatives', garages, lofts or sheds full of unused DIY gear, sewing/knitting machines or fabric and haberdashery stuff?

No, I'm unhappy if when someone joins they are immediately portrayed as a sock puppet. I'd rather be wrong most of the time and get a few more new members because of that than right most of the time and chase posters off because of some sad need to prove my 'foresight'

I agree with NS. Considering how few new members we're getting these days it isn't very welcoming if we treat everyone who joins as if they are a clones or sockpuppet of a banned member without any evidence to indicate that they are.
