Hi - I just saw this Introduction page so apologies if I posted a few days ago before introducing myself.

I used to post on the BBC MB for a few months until it closed. I like this one - thank you Jakswan - as it is open in the evening and early morning. I'm Muslim BTW. I'm also female, married, 2 kids. I've met many different kinds of people - university, the army , work, Hajj, in various communities, read many books and been involved in various humanitarian political / charitable events that I think now I'm virtually unshockable - really it's amazing what goes on behind closed doors but eventually comes out into the open. But please don't take that as a challenge to try to shock me though

The only thing that still shocks me is some people's willingness and capacity to inflict physical pain on others far weaker than themsleves

Was on the BBC message boards and also a member of NGLReturns. I post very little on message boards mostly read what others have to say.

Started as CofE, Methodist Sunday School then converted to RC in 2010 (felt more at home there).

Live in Durham, have to teenage kids. Love reading, cross stitch, and ancient egypt. Probably forgotten something.

Realized I had not been on BBC board for months - sometimes good debate dries up and same old arguements increase

Was startled to see it BBC was closing.

I was tedferg on BBC as I am here. 73, Liverpool born, California since 1967. Once Catholic, now Atheist, but less militant than before, with strong Buddhist sympathies.

Happy to stumble on this board and delighted that I will be able to post late in my day

Atheist but no longer anti-theist. Recently told persistant JW callers that we are Buhddist - they smiled and said 'have a nice day'. Don't think they'll be back.

I see an introduction is the etiquette.

Found you when on the tinternet for five minutes looking for info on something ... you know how it is two hours later .... mmmm Started off with wondering why the actor who plays Henry V111 in that TV series didn't wear body padding for the later episodes > to what do we really know about said King > what woud Britain be like if he hadn't fallen out with the pope > wouldn't it be handy to time travel and ask him a few questions > if I could do that why not go back to the so called Holy Land 2000 years ago and see if I could find this Jesus bloke (if he existed even) and see for myself what he was really like > why are so many people so sure they know ... well you get the drift.

Anyway fetched up here and have had a fascinating time reading through all the threads .. well not ALL of them lol

Lantana as I one read a novel set in OZ where the characters threw stuff into the Lantana thicket and thought yeah that sounds a bit like me. I'm a good listener and people are forever throwing stuff I'd really rather not have onto me (know too many secrets!!!) ... too damn nice for my own good. So I may well be bemused by others beliefs but I'd not rubbish them (well not to their face anyway).

Having said that maybe I can practise being more outspoken on here?

Well so far I've been finding it very interesting. I don't know whether to laugh or cry at some of the posts. I just can't believe that some people still insist on the reality of a global flood for instance. I've just found out that a good friend of mine is going to do a theology course now that she's retired .. much to my surprise even though I knew she was a church goer. Reading the threads on here, and having a pre-think as it were, will hopefully help in any discussions we might have ... or at least help to to understand where she is coming from!

I can understand the need for a belief in a god as a way of finding 'the meaning of life' but what I don't understand is why the Abrahmic one? I suspect that the original believers in said deity would be quite astonished at the following he now enjoys.
